Description

Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration or other related degree with specialization in Seniors, Physical Activity, Special Events, Facility Operations or Performing/Visual Arts and a minimum of three (3) years experience in the field of community recreation with a demonstrated ability in all aspects of program development, facility operations, organizational development and information referral
• Sound knowledge of processes for conducting needs assessments and developing, implementing and evaluating programs
• Demonstrated experience and ability to effectively consult with multiple stakeholders and partners
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programming/facility/marketing plans and budgets
• Excellent skills and experience supervising staff and volunteers including recruitment, development and performance management
• Strong coordination, facilitation, consultation, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Extensive knowledge and awareness of current theory, trends and practices in seniors programming and services
• Knowledge of capital planning and construction processes
• Proficiency in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

We’re looking for …
Post secondary education, such as a Recreation Administration degree or diploma supplemented by Aquatics certification such as Alberta Pool Operator Certification Level 2, NLS, Standard First Aid and an Aquatic Instructor’s certificate. At least 5 years of aquatic experience in progressively more responsible positions is required along with 2 years of aquatic supervision, administration and/or programming (totalling 7 years experience). Highly developed interpersonal, supervisory, pool mechanical & maintenance skills, as well as good computer skills are all required.
Salary Range: $68,790 to $75,807 plus a comprehensive benefit package and participation in LAPP.

Description:
The Community Services Department is looking for energetic, responsible and qualified individuals to work as Aquatic Instructors at various fitness and leisure centres. We also offer specialized training to assist with finding employment in this expanding market. Responsibilities for an Aquatics Instructor will include:
* Instructing aquatic lessons for children, youth, and/or adults.
* Evaluating class participant performance.

At the 2010 National Summer Games, Alberta will be represented in Athletics, Aquatics, Bowling (5 & 10 pin), Rhythmic Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Soccer and Softball.
The number of athletes, coaches, mission staff that a province can take to a National Games is determined by Special Olympics Canada. For the 2010 National Summer Games, Team Alberta will consist of 121 athletes, 30 coaches, and 10 mission staff, which includes 2 Chef de Mission positions and various other positions to meet the team’s needs.
The sport psychologist / mental trainer position is a new position for Team Alberta. Special Olympics Alberta understands the concept of mental training and the importance of it for the all round training and performances of an athlete.

Time Period Required For This position is effective immediately upon acceptance of offered position, and will include pre-games team preparation, the actual time of the Games and participation in an evaluation of team, position and Games.
Purpose
• To develop and implement the mental training component for Special Olympics Team Alberta.
• To provide support and advice on mental training to members of Team Alberta to enhance performance leading up to and during the 2010 Special Olympics National Games.
• To assist with ensuring all Team Alberta members have a successful and fulfilling experience at the National Games;
Accountabilities
The Mental Trainer / Sport Psychologist is a volunteer position accountable to Team Alberta’s Chef de Missions and Team Managers. He/she also works closely with Special Olympics Alberta in the implementation of his/her duties.
Responsibilities
Pre Games:
• Act as a role model and conduct yourself within the Team Alberta Code of Conduct.
• Be familiar with the Athlete Agreement and the roles and responsibilities of the Chef de Mission, Team Managers, Coaches and other Mission Staff.
• Assist coaches with the development and implementation of a mental training component as part of each sport’s training plan.
• Act as a resource to athletes, coaches and mission staff on mental training principles and practices that support and encourage peak sport performances at Games.
• Provide information and mental training tips to coaches.
• Teach psychological skills to optimize training and performance.
• Work with coaches and athletes to resolve any individual athlete’s mental training issues, communicating with parents/guardians as required.
• Provide support to Team Alberta Members around injury rehabilitation and post injury competition preparation.
Attend, participate and assist in the delivery of the sport psychology / mental training component in Team Alberta’s Team Camps, Sport Specific Training Camps and/or Staging Camps.
• Attend Team Alberta’s members sport competitions as needed.
• Support and build upon mental training principles in Athlete’s Personal Best Program.
• Contribute to the educational training materials for the team.
• Work within the lines of communication set by the Management Team.
• Actively participate in all Team Alberta’s scheduled conference calls or meetings as required.
During Games:

Qualifications
• Be a professional member registered or have the requirements to be registered with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association or a registered psychologist or clinical counsellor with demonstrated sport experience.
• Minimum of two years experience in the field of Sport Psychology as an applied practitioner is an asset.
• Have experienced or currently in a sport psychology mentorship or internship.
• Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills
• Experience in crisis management
Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
• A working knowledge of the sport system and experience working in a multi- Games setting is an asset.
• Experience working with athletes with an intellectual disability is an asset.

The Edmonton Chapter of the MS Society of Canada is seeking a Community Support Coordinator. This position will provide information and support counseling to persons who contact the Society and oversee the ongoing development of the community support group program. As an active team player, the Community Support Coordinator will perform other related duties consistent with Client Services goals and policies. This position will also work with and supervise volunteers as necessary.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Support
•Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate up to seven community support groups in the Edmonton Capital Region.
•Assess plan, implement and evaluate any new groups for which there is a need established.
•Continue the development of MS Communities in Sherwood Park, Parkland County, Leduc County and St. Albert.
2.Education
•Assist the Education and Advocacy Coordinator in planning and facilitating education presentations and facilitator training workshops.
•Assist Education and Advocacy Coordinator by acting as a replacement facilitator (if needed) for the MS IS, 1 day workshop.
3.General
•Provide face-to-face and telephone support and information to clients.
•Submit a monthly report to the Director of Client Services, Edmonton Chapter.
•Maintain accurate records of all activities.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Degree, diploma or equivalent in social sciences, or health related disciplines.
EXPERIENCE NECESSARY: At least two year’s experience in group planning and facilitation. Experience in facilitating Group Process would be an asset. Experience working with a disabled population is an asset, but not a requirement.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•Ability to coordinate support groups independently.
•Ability to deal sensitively and appropriately with a variety of people, both in person and on the telephone.
•Strong administrative skills and ability to multi-task
•Strong oral and written communication skills
•Ability to represent the MS Society in an appropriate manner
HOURS OF WORK: This is a 1.0 FTE position. Hours of work will be set to meet programming requirements. Office hours are between 8:30a.m. – 4:30p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Flexible hours and possible overtime are to be determined in conjunction with the Director of Client Services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position must meet the demands of clients, staff, volunteers and other MS Society members. Travel within the Edmonton Capital Region is required. A valid Class 5 Drivers License is required. First Aid and CPR are also required.

This is a Temporary, Full time position for up to 11 months.
The Active Living and Wellness Unit is responsible for fitness programming in the City of Edmonton’s many Recreation Facilities and currently has an opening for an Adult Fitness and Wellness Program Coordinator. The primary responsibility for the successful candidate will be to create and maintain a complete schedule of Adult Fitness and Wellness programs for customers who use the City’s Recreation Facilities. Programs in this area include (but are not limited to) Yoga, Pilates, Step, Spin and Strollersize. • Supervise and mentor staff both on and off site.
• Plan and implement day-to-day public Adult Fitness and Wellness programs.
• Research and assess new program ideas.
• Develop public Adult Fitness and Wellness programs and services within budget guidelines.

• Maintain relationships with Stakeholders and Partners to ensure successful delivery of Adult Fitness and Wellness programs within the facilities.

• Collaborate with organizations, agencies, contracted staff, Volunteer Support and internal clients on Adult Fitness and Wellness programs.
• Coordinate all facilities and supplies for Adult Fitness and Wellness programs.
• Provide input and recommendations on policy in the areas of Adult Fitness and Wellness programs to supervisor.
• Complete all necessary follow up on customer concerns and comments on Adult Fitness and Wellness programs and forward to supervisor when appropriate.
• Work cooperatively within the Active Living and Wellness Unit and overall Programs and Events Section.
Job Requirements
• Completion of a degree/diploma in Recreational/Leisure/Physical Education or related discipline with training in Program Development.
• One (1) year experience in fitness, exercise or active living programming including development of programs, resource materials and promotional/marketing information.
• Certification with Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology as a Certified Personal Trainer (C.P.T.) or Certified Exercise Physiologist (C.E.P.) or Alberta Fitness Leadership Association Trainer status is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Ability to supervise staff and collaborate effectively with stakeholders to optimize use of resources and the quality of programming.
• Sound knowledge of all aspects of fitness services.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
• Experience with CLASS software is an asset.
• Excellent customer relations and interpersonal skills.
• Strong team player.
