Abstract
This presentation focuses on ways to think about and understand the experience of parks and recreation users. Experiences live inside people, so they can’t be influenced directly. Each person brings a unique history with them to a property. And they bring the ‘wiring’ all human beings have, which influences their experiences. Then they interact with people, policies and procedures, marketing and communications, and every other element from the parking line-up to natural environment. All these elements combine to create emotions, memories, and an overall sense of value. You can learn to use the elements of experience the way a designer uses colours and textures to create amazing experiences, positive memories and long-term loyalty.

Publisher/Sponsor: Land Stewardship Centre of Canada
Author: Ilnicki, Brian
Abstract: The Green Communities Guide was developed by the Land Stewardship Centre of Canada (LSCC) to help communities implement strategies to conserve water, protect water quality, conserve agricultural land, open spaces and wildlife habitat in Alberta’s built environment. The tools presented in the Guide were selected to address the key issues identified by planners and developers, from preliminary surveys and discussions. Tools were researched, described and accompanied by appropriate case studies to provide details on implementation as well as contact information. Through the Guide municipalities, planners, developers and builders will be informed about innovative approaches other communities are taking to avoid, mitigate, or reduce impacts that may, otherwise affect ecological processes and reduce the flow of goods and services.

I work with the City of Vaughan’s Recreation and Culture Department, and we are in the midst of reviewing our procedures for a lost child/missing person taking part in our programs (general recreational, aquatics, camps, etc.). As such, I would like to gather written procedures from other municipalities/organizations around lost child/missing persons if you have any please send them on.

Kids at Hope: Call for Ambassadors
Just two days left to apply! Application deadline is September 30th at noon.
ARPA is looking for individuals interested in being ambassadors for an inspiring, empowering, and transformative approach for serving children and youth called “Kids at Hope.”
You provide the passion and enthusiasm, and we’ll provide ongoing resources, learning opportunities, and support. While being selected as a Kids at Hope Ambassador doesn’t have a specific cash value, it will provide you with what you need to make a powerful difference in the lives of children and youth in your organization and community.
Through the ACE (Active, Creative, Engaged) Communities initiative, ARPA is pleased to launch Kids at Hope in Alberta. It is an innovative concept, grounded in 13 years of research from its founding organization in Arizona, which states and demonstrates that all children are capable of success, NO EXCEPTIONS!
Currently, ARPA is seeking 20 ambassadors from a variety of agencies, departments, schools, or communities to become ambassadors for Kids at Hope in Alberta. Please click through the following links to view the program backgrounder and application online. The application deadline is Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 (noon), and notification of conditional acceptance will be sent out by October 9th.
Kids at Hope is not another program; it is a belief system, supported by strategies to transform culture, and then enhanced by programs. Kids at Hope inspires, empowers, and transforms families, youth serving organizations (schools, recreation and parks departments, non-profit organizations, etc.), and entire communities to create an environment where all children experience success, NO EXCEPTIONS! For more information about Kids at Hope, including frequently asked questions, please visit www.kidsathope.org.
We look forward to hearing from you about your organization/community! If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Finnigan at (780) 644-4797 or jfinnigan@arpaonline.ca.
